Site Navigation: Home Page
On the home page, navigation is segmented in four ways:
- Assistance Items (upper right) are
search utilities for finding people, places, and pages. Assistance
items are on every page of the Georgia Tech site.
- Audience navigation combines
information, resources, and links into collections aimed at
specific audiences. For instance, a prospective student would
expect to find links to admission, financial aid, parking and more
on the Prospective Students audience page. Audience navigation is
presented on the home page as a row of drop down menus.
- To the left of the main image are the most commonly requested
site locations that don’t belong to a particular audience (we call
these Trip Models). These items are
presented in list form on the home page.
- Footer Navigation, available on every
page, gives quick access to less frequently used (but important
nevertheless) items such as Tech’s privacy policy and
accessibility information.
Site Navigation: Sub-pages
On all sub-pages (below the home page),
Audience Navigation and Trip Model
Navigation are available via a drop-down ‘Shortcuts’ menu, in
the upper right beneath the assistance items. Simply pick the
desired location and hit the ‘GO’ button. Additionally, you can
always return to the home page by clicking the Georgia Tech logotype
in the upper left corner. And below the page title and images you’ll
notice a ‘crumb trail’ that shows you the most direct path from the
home page to the current page. Note that
Assistance Items and Footer Navigation
are in their same locations.
Getting Help
As with any Web site, there comes an occasional need to contact
the individuals responsible for the content or technical aspects of
the site. The Contact Us link in the footer of every page leads to a form that
allows you to direct correspondence to an appropriate administrator,
who will attend to your inquiry in a timely fashion. It is important
to emphasize that selecting a specific topic area (first item in the
contact form) will greatly speed the response to your note.
Technical concerns should be directed to the ‘webmaster’.
Understanding the Acronyms
Like any large organization, Georgia Tech as amassed a sizeable
campus ‘vernacular’. To better clarify some of the terms and
abbreviations that one may find throughout the Georgia Tech Web
presence, a simple glossary of terms can be found in the
Tech Lingo
section.
Site Requirements
The technical requirements of this site will cause problems for
users who are not accessing the Web with a standards-compliant
browser. The Georgia Tech Web presence was designed with fairly
strict adherence to W3C
specifications, and with
accessibility in
mind.
For optimum use, we recommend using a standards-compliant
browser, that renders HTML
and CSS according to W3C
specifications. These browsers include, but are not limited to
Netscape 6.x and newer,
Internet Explorer 5.x and newer,
Opera 5.x and newer, and
Mozilla (all builds). These browsers have passed quality
assurance tests on all contemporary Macintosh and Windows operating
systems (OS8, 9, and X, as well as 98, 2000, NT, and XP
respectively). Mozilla is also available for Unix users, and Linux
users have Netscape, Mozilla, Opera and even
Konqueror as options. |
