Georgia Tech is implementing an online performance management system for classified staff. You can access the online performance management system through TechWorks at http://techworks.gatech. Enter your GT Account and password. Once in TechWorks, click on "Access the Online Performance Management System" under the Performance Management Header. You should then be redirected to your online performance management system homepage/dashboard. If you receive an error message when you attempt to login the first time, please try completely logging out of TechWorks, closing that particular tab/web browser, and trying to login again.
If you are a manager or supervisor, please review the Quick Reference Guide for instructions on how to navigate the system to enter and approve goals for your employees. For all employees, please review the Quick Reference Guide to learn how to navigate the system and enter your own goals.
This system will help support the Institute’s overall objective of recognizing and treating performance management as an ongoing process instead of an annual event. Performance management is most effective when performance objectives are established and timely, accurate feedback is provided throughout the year. The online performance management system will enhance our ability to do so and thus enable us to:
- Improve workforce productivity
- Develop and retain top performers
- Provide equitable treatment for all employees
- Align individuals goals with organizational goals
- Move Georgia Tech toward a pay for performance culture
Goal Setting
Beginning in April 2011, supervisors and employees will be able to access the online system to enter Performance Goals for the 2011/2012 evaluation period. Performance Goals specify what is expected of you in your current position in relation to the department or unit’s overall goals. For further information on creating performance goals, please refer to the Goal Setting Quick Reference Guide.
Performance goals are required for all classified staff and must be entered into the online system by October 31, 2011.
The online system will also enable supervisors and employees to note and update progress on performance objectives throughout the review cycle. At the conclusion of the 2011/2012 review cycle, performance appraisals will be completed online and employees will be evaluated in part based upon their success in achieving the established goals.
Career Development Goals
The system also contains a section for Career Development Goals. Career Development Goals are any planned activities that add to the employee’s ability to perform their job more effectively and/or provide an opportunity for professional development. Examples of career development goals include:
- Enrolling in training courses provided on or off campus
- Participating in professional organizations
- Obtaining an advanced degree
These goals are strongly encouraged and critical to employee development, but will not be used to evaluate the employee’s performance.
Performance Notes
A “Performance Notes” section is also available in the system. This section will enable managers and employees to make note of any other general performance observations. For example, if a supervisor or employee wish to make note of an assignment that was completed, but it is not directly related to a Performance Goal, the “Performance Notes” section would be an ideal place to enter that information.
