Tech Temp Procedures - Post Hire Transactions, Extension, Termination

Post Hire Transactions

Effective 8/1/2010, the Office of Human Resources Tech Temp Recruitment Coordinator, Diane Keith, will only process hire and rehire PSFs. All other PSFs for Tech Temps, which may include pay rate changes, job changes, title changes, percent time changes, must be completed by the Work Department PSF Originator. The Work Department PSF Originator must select Diane Keith as the final approver for all PSFs related to Tech Temps.

Tech Temp Extension Process

If the Hiring Department wants to extend a Tech Temp employment for continuous employment of 6 months or longer at 50% time or more, the department should send an email requesting and justifying the appointment extension.  If request is approved, Talent Acquisition notifies the department that the request is approved and generates a PSF (if necessary). NOTE: A 30 day break in service is required for Tech Temp employees working over 1040 hours in 1 year.

Once the Hiring Department is notified that the extension was not approved, the department must advise the Tech Temp employee of the termination and request them to complete:

NOTE:  The terminated Tech Temp should bring the above documents and a final work sheet to the Office of Human Resources.

Terminating a Tech Temp Employee

  • The Work Department must complete a PSF using the TER (Termination) action code.
  • Include a note in the PSF comments section stating:  Termination.

NOTE:  The termination date should be the day after the last day worked by the Tech Temp.

  • The Work Department must list Diane Keith as the final approver.

The Hiring Department should inform the Tech Temp employee of the termination and request them to complete:

NOTE:  The terminated Tech Temp should bring the above documents and a final work sheet to the Office of Human Resources.

Transferring a Tech Temp Employee into a Research Faculty or Post Doctoral Position

  • The Work Department must complete a PSF using the TTR (Temporary to Regular) action code.
  • Include a note in the PSF comments section stating:  "Conversion to research faculty position" or "Conversion to post doctoral position".
  • The Work Department must list Rex Welch as the final approver.
  • Email Rex Welch (rex.welch@ohr.gatech.edu) and Diane Keith (diane.keith@ohr.gatech.edu) as a courtesy if possible.

Transferring a Tech Temp Employee into a Regular Classified Position

  • The Hiring Department should complete a PSF, also using TTR (Temporary to Regular) action code.
  • Include a note in the PSF comments: "Conversion to regular classified position".
  • The Work Department must list Diane Keith as the final approver.
  • Email Diane Keith (diane.keith@ohr.gatech.edu) to communicate the transfer for record retention purposes.
