Employee Separation Process

What is the employee separation process, and what is my role as a manager or administrator?

Regardless of whether an employee is resigning, retiring or being terminated, departing employees should be separated (Offboarded) with the same interest and respect that is given to a new hire.

The Manager /Department Administrator has several important actions that must be taken in order to separate an employee.  They must:

  • In the event of a termination, inform the employee, in writing, of his/her termination.
  • Generate a PSF to separate the employee effective the day after their last day of work.
  • Download the exit checklist and complete it. The department should keep a copy of this form for their records.
  • Assist  the employee in processing other separation requirements  (Employee Separation - Benefits Eligible or Employee Separation - Non Benefits Eligible)
  • Encourage the employee to visit Human Resources, 500 Tech Parkway on their last day of employment
