About the Office of Human Resources

Universities with the best talent will always rise to the top. And so finding, developing, and supporting that talent should be among an organization’s most important tasks. In Human Resources, our role is to help the Institute recognize people as strategic contributors.  We also help our senior executives craft innovative strategies that allow them to utilize our employee’s talents to advance the Institute’s mission, and to build our international brand and reputation.

We are the people unit. We serve Georgia Tech in a wide variety of ways - ranging from helping managers to identify new talent and hire new employees, to growing and developing our employees through exceptional professional education. We help bring new members of our university community into the institution, and help each to get oriented and prepared. We help to ensure that the Institute’s more than 6,000 employees are paid correctly and on time. And we are available to help when there are challenges. We support employees and managers in addressing complex workplace problems – whether they are matters of structure and organization, or interpersonal.

What we do:

  • We onboard (our word for orient or begin careers for) new employees. Each month we identify, select, and onboard approximately forty new employees.
  • We process payroll and maintain employment data for 11,000 active faculty, staff, and students. We process more than $500 million in gross salaries and ensure the accuracy of 13,000 direct deposits or paychecks a month.
  • We administer, manage, and grow a variety of employee benefit plans.
  • We support Georgia Tech’s international employees. We advise and counsel roughly 2,000 international faculty, staff, and student employees regarding immigration and taxation.
  • We maintain a market-driven compensation structure in order to attract and retain employees.
  • We advise employees and managers regarding work performance and conflict management.
  • We provide professional development and training courses and offer career development services to the Institute’s diverse workforce.
