Benefits Staff Editorial Notes- Blue Choice HMO

We recommend the Blue Choice HMO for value conscious employees who live within the State of Georgia Blue Choice service area.  The plan features relatively low premiums and co-payments.  It has a relatively large network in the metro Atlanta area.

Special Considerations:

You must get a referral from your primary care physician to see an in network specialist for all care needs besides dermatology and gynecology.  It takes 30 days to change a primary care physician.  Some participating doctors will not accept new HMO patients.  Medical providers are free to leave the plan mid year, this will require that you choose another primary care physician within the Blue Choice network.  You will not be able to change health insurance plans until the next October/November open enrollment with a January 1st effective date.  Blue Choice only covers emergency treatment (generally defined as life or limb threatening situations) outside of network.  Therefore, we do not recommend this plan for employees who frequently travel, have dependents out of state, or work in an out-of-state satellite office.
